Just 500m south from Gaios on the road to Mongonisi you will encounter Plakes beach. Plakes is a pebbled beach with clear waters while its coast is not very wide and there is no natural shade. Plakes beach took its name from the stony plates set on its one side, right next to the sea. The beach is preferred mostly by those who settle nearby and want a shore right at their feet. In the surrounding area a variety of taverns and accommodation options are found. If you follow the coastal road to the south, you will meet another small and charming beach, Spiatza beach.
