Pelion is well known for its mythological importance. It is the mountain where the battle of the Giants took place as well as the summer retreat of the Olympian Gods. It was the motherland of Chiron the Centaur, a mythical creature that taught archery, the art of war and music to some of the most renowned heroes of mythology such as Hercules, Achilles and Jason.

Pelion was also a favourable ancient wedding venue where Peleus and Thetis chose to be wed and the home of the first beauty pageant ever between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. Even the legendary journey of Jason and his Argonauts started off from the beautiful region of Pelion.
