Pelion has both mild summers and winters due to its exceptional location amidst the mountains and the sea and it is generally known for its healthy climate.

TELEPHONE
The national prefix for Greece is +30 if you are calling from abroad. All numbers in the capital of Athens start with the prefix 210 and are followed by 8 digits (e.g. 210-3227400).

The Area Code for Pelion is: +30 24260. If you wish to call abroad, you have to start by dialling the other country's national prefix (i.e. 0049 for Germany, 0044 for England etc.) and continue with the area code and the number where you wish to call.

Getting there
BY AIR

During the summer months travellers can arrive to Pelion via the airport of Volos, named Anhialos, situated 35 km from the town of Volos. The airport of Skiathos is also a very convenient way to reach Pelion throughout the year. The trip from Athens to Skiathos lasts 35 minutes and from there one has to take the flying dolphin, the hydrofoil or the ferry to get to the harbour of Volos in approximately 1:30 hour or 2:30 hours respectively.

BY BOAT
The port of Volos is the third largest port in Greece. There are ferry boats, hydrofoils and flying dolphins from and to the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.

BY BUS
The Ktel (long distance) buses serve many routes to and from the city of Volos both from Athens and Thessaloniki as well as Patra and other smaller cities of Greece. The busses leave from the central Bus Terminal (Liosion Str., Athens) and the journey lasts approximately 4 to 5 hours.
Likewise, the trip lasts 3 hours from the Macedonian Bus terminal station of Thessaloniki.

BY TRAIN
Travelers can reach Volos with the Greek National Railway (OSE) from Athens, Patra and Thessaloniki. The duration of the trip from Athens to Volos is approximately 4-8 hours depending if you travel with a regular or express train.

BY CAR
You can reach Volos by car following the National road E 75 Patra-Athens-Thessaloniki or the National road E92 from Igoumenitsa to Larissa and then to Volos.

A sea taxi service is available from the small seashore hamlet of Mikro to the picturesque village of Platania only during the peak summer season.

Local buses are very limited in Pelion therefore, if you are planning to use this way of transportation, you need to make sure that you know where the bus stops are located and the exact time schedule for the bus routes.

MONEY EXCHANGE
Currency can be exchanged in banks, post offices, travel agencies as well as some hotels that can be found throughout the Pelion region and the numerous villages.

POST OFFICE

The Greek post office is called ELTA and you can find the main post office of Pelion region in the city of Volos at 209 Dimitriados street, 38221. The post office performs money transactions and cash currency exchange. Post Boxes in Greece are YELLOW for normal post, usually with 2 slots for INTERNAL POST (meaning inside Greece) and post for ABROAD. RED Post Boxes are rarer and they are used for URGENT mail. REGISTERED mail is always handled and given a receipt for at the POST OFFICE.
