From Harvard to Nafplio: A Journey of Knowledge

In the magnificent city of Nafplio, where the castle, the countless stairs and the famous Bourtzi surely prevail, one of the world’s most prominent universities, Harvard University, has established a new cultural centre for the promotion of Greek culture.

Since 2008 the ‘’first capital of Greece’’ warmly welcomes visitors and culture aficionados from the US, who seek to explore and interact in a cross-cultural environment from ancient times to the present. In the restored neoclassical Iatrou Court (former Town Hall) the Centre for Hellenic Studies in Greece, bridges the gap between western and eastern civilizations.

The Centre in Nafplio is a key part of Harvard’s continuing effort to support researchers and students who wish to explore different cultures as well as the many facets of the Hellenic civilization.

In the historical and prestigious building one can find many innovative and challenging options.
The Digital Library. Free access to more than 70 digital libraries and data bases.
Event Series. In the Centre and in the wider area, there are plenty of events, talks, presentations, musical and theatrical venues that one should not miss.
Summer Internship Programme. Students participate in seminars of Greek language learning and work on a project closely related to their core subject of studies.

Comparative Cultural Studies Programme. This is perhaps the most prestigious summer project. It is held between the ancient city of Olympia and Nafplio, with participants coming not only from Harvard but from all over the world.
High School Summer Programme. An innovative programme for students to become familiar with the Greek and the American educational system respectively.

Cycladia could not but suggest you to visit the historical city of Nafplio, not only for its beauty but for its cultural treasure as well and discover that the Centre for Hellenic Studies strongly supports one of Harvard’s core values: free knowledge for everyone.
