The 14th French Film Festival Raises its Curtains in Athens


The 14th French Film Festival will inaugurate in Athens on the 4th of April renewing its exciting yearly spring rendezvous. Presented by the French institute of Athens it gives a great opportunity to Greek Francophiles to enjoy the most spectacular French films released last year.

The French Film Festival was first held in Athens in 2000 becoming the annual spring cinema event of Greece, now established as one of the 3 major Greek film festivals along with the world renowned film festival of Thessaloniki and the international film festival of Athens.

Rich in Avant Premieres and unreleased movies along with short and children films as well as some independent films from Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, Morocco and Romania this year’s festival will be a genuine fest of French cinematography. Full-length animated films in collaboration with the international festival of animation “Be there” of Corfu, a cine-concert accompanied by the music of Acte Vide and a cinematic game for kids at the National Archaeological Museum will be some of the exciting events that will take place during the festival.

The French Film Festival will be raising its curtain with Anthony Marsiano’s film “The Brats” at the Onassis Cultural Centre of Athens on April 4th and will run through April 10th, bringing under one roof the crème de la crème of French releases.

From April 11th until April 17th 2013 it will transfer to Thessaloniki and conclude with the “Boutique for Suicides” by Patrice Leconte and the closing ceremony taking place at cinema Danao. The films will be competing for the Jury Committee Award and the Audience Award.

At this year’s festival a special tribute will be paid to Carole Bouquet who will be present to receive the honorary award along with other prominent guests such as Muriel Coulin, Eva Ionesco, Mourad Ben Cheikh, Remi Bezancon, Tony Gatlif, Aure Atika and Karol Beffa.
